What is the duration and renewal of the reimbursement insurance policy?
The duration of reimbursement insurance and its renewal process are essential aspects to understanding how this type of health insurance policy works.
Here we explain in detail how the period of cover is established in reimbursement insurance, how it is extended and what steps you must follow if you wish to cancel it.
What is the duration of reimbursement insurance?
Unless otherwise stated in the specific terms and conditions, the duration of reimbursement insurance is adjusted to the calendar year, that is, from 1 January to 31 December. This duration usually coincides with the main insurance cover.
In some cases, the contract may establish a different initial period, but it is usual for the duration to be agreed upon as 12 months, automatically renewable.
How does renewal of reimbursement insurance work?
As a general rule, the renewal of reimbursement insurance is automatic every year, unless one of the parties (the insurer or the policyholder) states that they do not wish to continue with the policy.
-
DKV will notify the insured person of any change in the renewal at least two months prior to maturity.
-
The insured person may oppose renewal by informing DKV at least one month in advance, using a method that can be verified (in writing, with acknowledgment of receipt, etc.).
If neither party indicates its intention to cancel, the policy is renewed automatically for another full year.
What happens if I don't want to renew my policy?
If you do not wish to continue with your insurance, you must notify DKV of your decision at least 30 days before maturity. Ideally, you should notify it using a method that can be verified: certified post, registered fax or email with read receipt.
