Funeral planner

What do you want your farewell to be like?

Plan a farewell according to your wishes and make decisions easier for your family at a difficult time.

Have you thought where you would like to scatter your ashes? Are there any special music bands you would like to have played at your farewell? Would you like to leave organised a meeting / homage? Maybe you would like to hold a donation ceremony?

Why plan my farewell?

  • Sometimes, days after the ceremony, we get ideas of what we or the deceased may have preferred. The haste of the current funeral system, together with the emotion that accompanies that period of time, make it hard to reflect on certain aspects. Driven by inertia, we often choose standard options that may not match the person's personality.

  • Being able to communicate our wishes while we are still alive makes it easier for our family to make decisions when the time comes. So that the funeral does not become a burden, but rather a memory they think back to when they think of our life and our absence.

How does the funeral planning service work?

  • You can access 'Plan my farewell' from the DKV Customer Area. You will find a list of elements that are involved in a funeral: commemorative cards, coffin, speeches, music, flowers, cremation or burial, organ donation, etc. Open each of them to write down what you would like them to be like. You will be able to download the document and share it with your loved ones, as well as edit it as many times as you wish. In addition, DKV will safeguard your wishes confidentially.

Before starting to write about your farewell

Find a moment of calm and an intimate setting so you can think about the words you want to use, which may not come easily.

The list found in the planner shows the main questions that your family would consider at your farewell. Each section offers inspiration, ideas and options. To help you reflect on and design the way in which you would like to say goodbye. A unique and personal event, like your life.

How to share your planning wishes

Although your family can read your plan at the time of your death, we recommend you share your decisions beforehand. This conversation may not be easy, but we suggest that you discuss, share and even joke about your funeral ideas with your loved ones beforehand.

If it is already hard to think about our own mortality, but it can be even harder for our loved ones to imagine a world without us. Be patient and persist, allow people to give their opinion, practice and remember that it is YOUR choice.

Decisions beyond the farewell

The planner also includes questions you may want to think about: your digital legacy, organ donation, etc. Although these are matters that are not strictly related to memorial services, when the time comes, you may want to convey your wishes or preferences.
