Regenerative medicine

Regenerative medicine is any kind of therapy that is involved in regenerating tissues and improving the structure of an organism

These types of therapies are used to cure a patient of an illness without them having to undergo treatment, to regenerate tissues that have been affected by age or trauma, to create organs for transplant and to help find ways to cure genetic disorders. 

The most commonly used therapies in regenerative medicine are the use of platelet-rich plasma and therapies designed around the use of stem cells. 
 

What are therapies based on the platelet-rich plasma (PRP)? 

These therapies are based on the concentration of platelets and growth factors obtained through the centrifugation of a patient's own blood. 

The patient's blood is extracted and then centrifuged to separate its elements and obtain the plasma that will subsequently be injected into the section of the patient's tissue that needs to be regenerated. 

This regeneration technique is used mainly in cosmetic procedures.
 

What are stem cells? 

Treatments that focus on the use of stem cells are the future of regenerative medicine, as they are able to regenerate damaged tissue.

Stem cells are able to reproduce as many times as necessary, which is the most important aspect of regenerating and rejuvenating the area they are administered to.
 

The clearest example of the use of the use of these cells is bone marrow transplants, which are used to save the lives of patients with leukaemia. 

In addition to platelet-rich plasma therapy (PRP) and stem cell therapies, there are also gene therapies in which a gene is inserted into a cell to replace or block a defective gene. This treatment can be used to cure hereditary diseases or acquired diseases such as cancer.
