I stand firm against childhood obesity

Childhood obesity is one of the main health and well-being challenges that our society's population is facing. A growing problem that, like other eating disorders, poses a threat to the individual's health, as it entails a poor quality of life and developing serious illnesses and pathologies that can ultimately lead to death.
Hence, the urgency of making this silent epidemic visible, an epidemic that is increasingly affecting the younger ones. Art has the tools necessary to make it visible, and in this proposal the public space is used as a springboard for activism in favour of a healthy diet, seeking to raise awareness of this nutritional emergency, which requires a prompt response.

For this project, the artist Rosalía Banet has specifically produced this series of sculptures, which are based on the following premise: 1 out of every 3 children in Spain suffer from different degrees of obesity.
Nine figures representing this alarming percentage, three of which portray the different stages of this disease: overweight, obesity and morbid obesity. Figures that have been placed in different locations in Madrid, such as the Spanish House of Representatives, Puerta del Sol, Plaza de Castilla and Plaza Cataluña.
Well-being, health and sustainability are joined at the seams, which is why these sculptures have been produced almost entirely using environmentally friendly techniques and materials, from their structure and sculptural materials to the paint used to finish them.
