A few kilometres from Central Madrid, near the Valdemingómez landfill, is the town of La Cañada Real, an area scattered with garbage, bonfires, mud and scrapheaps. The area includes Sector 6, possibly the most desolate sector as a result of government neglect. A bleak environment in which thousands of people of all types struggle to survive, living in a "third world" forgotten by society.

It is home to a large group of people who, due to a variety of reasons, have fallen into the world of drugs and social exclusion.

But, like everyone else, they have desires, feelings, problems, dreams, etc., and they all have something in common: the dream and hope that some day they will escape the living hell of the world where they are trapped, and manage to turn their lives around.

This photography project by Joaquín Tornero explores the underworld of drugs and drug abuse. Tornero uses photography, his favourite medium, to highlight the injustices he witnesses.
